Beckenham Relays 2026 - Race Report by Matt Newman

On Wednesday evening, 20th May, 36 Harriers along with supporters headed to Beckenham for the annual relays. The event consist of teams of three running a 4.1km leg each and the fastest combined time winning the race.

We had a good mix of Harriers representing the club ranging from experienced campaigners to new members and lots who were related – mother and sons, father and daughter, husbands and wives, brothers, sons and daughters in-law, fathers-in-law and brother and sisters-in-law, many running together in the same teams.

The team line-ups were pretty fluid in the build-up to the event with a number of Harriers having to withdraw, meaning some reshuffling of the pack, late recruitments (thanks to Billy Hobbs) and a couple of brave Harriers running two legs for us (thanks to Keith Mitchell and Ed Steele). With this help we made sure the teams were full and everyone could run, so thank-you.

The overall men’s rave was won again by a team from Dulwich. Our first Men’s team consisting of Dillon Hobbs, Tristan Roberts and Alex Holmes came home in a very respectable seventh place out of the 156 teams taking part.

The Ladies race was won by Kent AC with our first team of Vicky Eames, Jillian Holford and Ali Farrall coming home in twelfth.

In the individual legs, Dillon Hobbs won the award for the fastest leg on the evening.

The full results can be found here and looking down we can see how the the eight men’s teams, one ladies team and four mixed teams fared. Some excellent individual and team performance all round.

Beckenham is the first of two relay events around this time of year, with the next being Penshurst on 24th June. This one is local and always popular and currently we have 66 Harriers signed up to run. I’ll be finalising teams for this in the next few days so if you have not signed up yet and want to run, please act quick.

Thanks All,

Matt Newman
