September / October News

It’s been a busy and productive Autumn. Thank you to the writers of the 14 race reports that have come in since the last news summary for August, giving inspiration to others in expanding their running journeys (I would strongly suggest looking up the ‘SuperHalfs’). At time of writing, 5 further club records have been broken as well (4 for road, 1 for track). Congratulations to all!

£5 and £10 are the new TWH member/non-member fees for Monday Track as of 1st October, with payment strongly advised via Spond. The Tuesday intervals ‘grass season’ this year lasted from April 7th to October 5th , please stay safe on the roads everyone.

Thinking of tempting kit for those looking to get faster, Darren wrote a summary piece on carbon plated shoes. Take aways are to introduce them gradually, do not use them all (or even most) of them time, and put even stronger focus on strength and conditioning for the body areas which increased/decreased load as a consequence. He recommends speaking to professionals for further advice.

I write as the 40th Anniversary of the Club Road Champs is run, concluding the Club Grand Prix. I hope all have enjoyed this first iteration, though we all strongly suggest dual participation in the KBP as well for a bit of fun variety and broad club representation across road.

Cross country season is well and truly underway. Footscray and Somerhill are already under the TWH belt, with Danson Park (Welling, KXCL) and Central Park (Dartford, Kent Vet Champs) in the wings November 14th and 21st respectively. It is timely then that Andrew Deighton has highlighted the Autumn/Winter club kit that is available via link on the club website, have a browse!

The quiz occurred on 14th October, with quizmaster Steve Bright. Sadly, I was too ill to attend but I’m sure all had fun and it’s good to do something a bit different as the winter blues creep in. There are still plenty of spots available for the curry at The Spice on Friday 6th, for those looking for something warming and good company.

Never a dull moment, and always something to think about. I think this signifies a good club I’m proud to be part of. I look forward to catching up with yourselves at the curry.
