The Speldhurst Trophy

2025 WINNER: LUCY WRIGHT
Although Handicap racing has been a bedrock of the club almost from inception, with the first race being held in 1984, the Speldhurst Trophy was introduced in 1997.
Initially, the club held a monthly handicap race but as racing on the roads in the winter months became more difficult, it moved to a summer series, initially starting at the old club HQ on St Marks Fields but since the move of HQ to the Nevill Grounds it now finishes there having started on Forest Road, with a 10km route.
It was created and donated by four members who were resident in Speldhurst – Jacques Courivaud, Paul Eames, Peter Gander and Eddie Lyons – to be contested over the series of handicap races held throughout the summer.
In 2020, with COVID restricting regular running activities, the Speldhurst Trophy was still contested, with a self timed series held over a 5km Strava segment.
The winner is the member with the best combined handicap time, over a minimum of three of the four races held.
Details of previous winners can be found here.
